AITUTAKI features one of the largest and most beautiful lagoons in the world. It comprises one large island of Aitutaki and a number of smaller islets or motu. The main towns are shown on the Aitutaki map on this page. There are regular scheduled domestic air flights from Rarotonga, landing at the airstrip on the north of Aitutaki. This is an ideal destination for weddings and honeymoons, or any tropical island vacation getaway.

One of the motus (islets) on the eastern side of Aitutaki lagoon was a stopping off point for the historic flying airboat services, with the large vessels landing directly on the lagoon and allowing passengers to rest on the island before continuing across the South Pacific ocean.
